Book Recommendation

Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins

I want to share with you a book I have been reading titled “Can’t Hurt Me“ by David Goggins. His story is he is a navy seal, who came from a very abusive childhood and after three attempts managed to become a navy seal. After becoming a navy seal, he went on to hold world records for long-distance running, the most pull-ups, and all kinds of physical feats. His main concept is mostly talking about physical, athletic, or military efforts.

His concept is that when you think you have given everything that you can give, and you have tolerated all the discomfort you can. That you’re probably at 40% of your capacity, that you probably have more if you can just mentally access those extra resources.

I would qualify all this with the catch that I do not think that all problems can be solved just by being tougher. No pain, no gain is not always the best approach. I think even as you read his book you see that he realizes he could have done some things smarter in his life, he could have been more prepared. He is an inspiration for encouraging us to do the things that make us uncomfortable. He talks about doing something uncomfortable every day to make sure you are growing and learning.

I think that applies with a lot of the clients I work with, to get to where we want to be, we must do some uncomfortable things. Uncomfortable in your case might be having a tough conversation with your spouse, or  enforcing some new boundaries with your children, or it might be some tough physical event like becoming a navy seal, running a marathon or any of the things that we challenge ourselves with.

I will link here his book and he also has a lot of videos on YouTube as well.

Can’t Hurt Me

A final warning, his language is military language and it is not safe for work, not family-friendly. But you should check out some of his content and his book is inspirational as well. I did see there is a “clean” version of his book if the language bothers you 🙂
