No. It is true that hypnosis has long been used to change habits such as smoking or eating too much. Hypnosis has also been used to do stage shows and get people to do entertaining things for a crowd. The truth is that the state of hypnosis is simply a state of mind where the brain can become aware of ideas and resources that it didn’t know it had. The field of clinical hypnotherapy is another application of this state of mind, but used in a way that can help people with all manner of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Will insurance cover hypnotherapy?

Yes, most insurances will cover hypnotherapy when it is provided by a licensed therapist, medical doctor, or dentist.

Are some people unable to be hypnotized?

No. That is primarily a myth promoted by stage entertainers who can tell that you won’t cluck like a chicken on stage, so they can move on to the next person in the crowd. Everyone with a human brain can go into hypnosis to some degree.

What’s it like to be hypnotized?

To the outside world you appear asleep or “knocked out”. Internally you are actually quite alert but you are just more focused internally on your own experience.

How long is a clinical hypnosis session?

My sessions are typically scheduled to last 50 minutes.

– Hypnotherapy can be used to help with all of the underlying components of depression, such as ruminating on the past, negative self talk, trouble getting to sleep, and suicidal thinking.

Hypnotherapy can be used to help in turn with each of the underlying causes of anxiety such as insomnia, worrying, catastrophizing, and somatic symptoms.

Yes, hypnotherapy can be very effective at helping reduce and even eliminate Tourette’s.

Can clinical hypnosis help with sleep problems?

Yes, hypnosis can be used to help with insomnia, including racing thoughts, waking up too early, or sleeping but still waking up feeling tired.

Can clinical hypnosis help with Trauma?

Yes, a hypnotic process is very effective in helping identify and reprocess traumatic events. You may also hear this referred to as EMDR.
